Use a heat pack
With the help of a heat pack, warm up your jaw. Wrap a heat pack in a clean towel and soak for a minute in Luke warm water. Apply the pack on your jaw (both sides). Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes to help ease your Lockjaw and decrease any soreness.
Remember to warm up your jaw properly before you use it so it is less tense.
You can use the heat pack several times daily for about 15 to 20 minutes, to manage locked jaw.
Knead your jaw with your fingers
Put your fingers on your jaw, below the cheekbones. Massage your jaw softly, and move your fingers towards your ear. Feel a plane of bone, below your ear. Use three fingers to smoothly press this part and rub in a round motion.
This will warm up and stimulate the area, which will keep this part relaxed.
Put pressure on mandible muscle
Mandible muscle is situated beside your jawline on the lower part of the jaw. Put a gentle pressure to Mandible muscle for about 10-12 seconds. If you feel pain or find it too aching to do this, put gentle pressure for few seconds then before.
You will feel that the muscles are releasing as the pressure is being applied. For most people, this method works and fix the lockjaw immediately.
Stretch your TMJ
Place your both thumbs on the jawline, above the mandible muscle. Apply gentle pressure on mandible muscle and move your thumbs towards your jaw. This stretching of mandible muscle can help to relief your TMJ.
You can do this stretching in another way. Place your two fingers on your mandible muscle (below your jaw) and put two fingers on the upper part of your jaw. Now, move fingers near each other until the fingertips sit between your jaws. Keep your fingers in the same position for about 5 to 8 seconds to release the part.
If you have any difficulty doing this seek your partner’s or friends help in performing this massage.
Wiggle your jaw side to side
Keep your jaws easy and calm, then put your hands on both sides of your jaw. Move from side to side, gently and smoothly. Do not apply pressure or press on your jaw. Slightly wiggle it until you feel that it is less tense.
You can also wiggle your jaw up and down by using your hands. Massage the jaw gently and move it up and down by your fingers to loosen it.
If you are unable to move your jaw at all or you find this method too painful, see your doctor immediately. Do not force or apply too much pressure on your jaw, as this can lead to further damages.
Massage your jaw once or twice every day
