The American Academy of family physicians gives us 8 exercises that help us in relieving TMJ pain and make our jaw open more than normal and flexible enough for pain-free chewing.
Relax Jaw Exercise
Touch your tongue to your upper mouth right behind your upper front teeth and then your teeth come apart allows your jaw muscles to relax. Keep doing this two or three times a day if you are suffering from TMJ pain.
Goldfish Exercise ( Half mouth opening)
In this exercise place your tongue on the top of your mouth and place one finger in the ear where you’re having pain either it’s right or left one. Now put the other index finger on your chin then drop your jaw halfway down then close it back. There has to be a slight resistance with the finger but not much that cause you pain. do this exercise 5 to 6 times a day for batter relief.
Goldfish Exercise ( Full mouth opening)
This exercise is exactly like the exercise defined earlier the only difference is that after placing a finger on-ear and another finger on the chin you have to open the jaw completely to give it maximum stretch. The procedure and the results of this exercise are almost the same to give you relief from TMJ pain and you should repeat this exercise 4 to 5 times a day for batter results.
For this exercise, all you need to do is put your shoulder back and chest up then pull your chin straight back just like the way you create a double chin. Hold this action for three seconds and repeat it ten times. Keep doing this at least four to five times a day for batter results.
Resisted opening of the mouth

Resisted closing of the mouth
In this exercise squeeze your chin with your index finger and thumb close your mouth and gently put pressure on your chin this procedure will give strength to your muscles for batter chewing.
This exercise is really simple looking and very effective. In this exercise, you slowly open and close your mouth while your tongue is touching the roof of the mouth. This exercise gives strength to your jaw joint.
Forward Jaw Movement
This is a slightly technical exercise for this you need to put a ¼ inch object into your mouth right between your front teeth. Move your lower jaw forward so that your lower teeth go in front of your top teeth. With the passage of time when exercise becomes more and more easier for you its batter to increase the thickness of the object for batter results.
